In partnership with the European Endowment for Democracy, the Moroccan Institute for Policy Analysis (MIPA) organized a training session on August 19^th, 2017 in Rabat on the “Techniques and Methods of Writing Policy Papers”. The event was animated by the director of MIPA, Dr. Mohammed Masbah, and Mr. Robin Noel from the European Policy Center (EPC). The training session involved researchers, young journalists and activists.

The aim of this training was to transfer the best practices in writing policy papers and to equip the participants with practical tools and techniques to improve their writing skills of policy papers in order to influence decision-making.

Discussants highlighted the elements and conditions that distinguish the writing of the policy-relevant papers. They lied down the various stages of writing that start from brainstorming the subject, then outlining the main arguments, the methodology and finally the style of writing policy papers. Then they focused on the elements of the paper, such as the title, the introduction, the analysis and the conclusion.

In addition, the participants presented their own experiences, with each participant presenting and discussing a draft policy paper and then getting the feedback from their colleagues.

It is noteworthy that the MIPA is an independent research institution founded by trans-disciplinary researchers. Among its main objectives is to provide accurate policy analysis about Morocco and the rest of the Middle East and North Africa. Through the organization of these training workshops, MIPA aims to establish new research traditions that seek to produce relevant and impactful policy papers.
