Green Index 2025 – The report

Green Index 2025

The report

The Moroccan Institute for Policy Analysis (MIPA) is pleased to release the findings of the Green Index 2025, developed under the DIRIA project, supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and in partnership with the Arab Reform Initiative.

The Green Index is the first nationwide quantitative study that captures Moroccan citizens’ perceptions and knowledge of climate change, sustainability, and environmental engagement. Based on field data, the Index provides a comprehensive picture of public attitudes, highlighting knowledge gaps, opportunities for action, and pathways to foster stronger civic participation in addressing climate challenges.

These findings aim to inform policymakers, civil society, and researchers, and to contribute to a more evidence-based debate on Morocco’s environmental and climate policies.

Press Release
Presentation of the “Green Index” Findings

The Moroccan Institute for Policy Analysis (MIPA) announces the organization of a press conference to present the findings of the “Green Index”, scheduled for Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 4:30 PM, at Fairmont La Marina Rabat Sale Hotel.

The ‘Green Index,’ developed within the framework of the DIRAIA project and supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), is the first nationally based field study designed to measure the awareness and perceptions of Moroccan citizens on issues related to climate change, sustainability, and the environment, as well as the extent of their engagement in environmental initiatives.

Based on a nationally representative sample of 1,015 respondents, the Index focuses on:

  • Levels of knowledge regarding climate change and environmental challenges.
  • Public perceptions of pressing issues such as water scarcity, pollution, desertification, and biodiversity loss.
  • The extent of citizens’ participation in environmental initiatives and the barriers limiting greater engagement.
  • Individuals’ readiness to adopt sustainable practices and their preferences regarding future policies.

The results of the “Green Index” provide an essential reference for understanding knowledge gaps, identifying opportunities to enhance awareness and participation, and offering practical insights for policymakers, civil society, and international organizations striving to promote climate justice and environmental resilience in Morocco.

The findings will also inform the preparation of policy briefs, advocacy strategies, and public awareness campaigns, in addition to shaping future workshops and other activities within the framework of the DIRAIA Project.
