Dr. Mohammed Masbah – President
Mohammed Masbah is the Founder and President of the Moroccan Institute for Policy Analysis (MIPA). He is a political sociologist whose work centers on public policy, democratization and political Islam, with a focus on North Africa.
Dr Masbah is an Associate Fellow at Chatham House in London and adjunct professor at Mohammed V University.
He was previously a non-resident scholar at the Carnegie Middle East Center, and a fellow at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik, SWP) in Berlin.
Dr Masbah obtained his PhD in Sociology from Mohammad V University in Rabat. His dissertation examined the processes of radicalization and deradicalization of Moroccan Salafis since Casablanca bombings in 2003.
His recent publications include:
- Moroccan Jihadists: Local and Global Dimensions, Al Jazeera Centre for Studies, 2021.

Dr. Rachid Aourraz – Senior Fellow
Mr. Aourraz is an adjunct professor at Mohamed V University and Mohammed VI Institute for Imams. He is an economist whose work focuses on political economy, education, and development. He is a regular contributor in media and he has edited several translations of books on Economics.
Dr. Yasmina Abouzzohour – Senior Fellow
Abouzzohour holds a PhD. From the University of Oxford, and currently works as a reasearcher at Brookings Doha Center. Previousely she was a Political Risk Analyst at Oxford Analytica. Her dissertation investigates the causal mechanisms behind regime survival in modern Arab monarchies. Before joining the University of Oxford, Ms. Abouzzohour got her B.A. (Hons) from Columbia University in 2014. Her broader research interests include oil and subsidies, authoritarian persistence, democratic transitions, regime legitimacy, and experimental political science (list surveys).
Mustapha Hadji – Associate Fellow
Mr. Hadji holds an MA in Global Affairs from George Mason University – USA. While in the United States, Mustapha worked, for 5 years, as an adviser at an Arab Embassy in Washington DC. Then, an Africa researcher with a USG contractor in Virginia. And for the last 3 years, a field protection delegate (in several African countries) with a prominent international organization. Mustapha’s research interests include African Affairs, conflict resolution, and Human Rights and Democratization.
Souad Ahmadoun – Associate Fellow
Ms. Ahmadoun is a research associate at the MIPA Institute working on issues related to migration and refugees, sociopolitical dynamics in Morocco and more specifically on justice sector reform as well as Jihadism and Countering Violent Extremism strategies. She was a research assistant at Carnegie Middle East Center and during her internship with the German Institute for International and Security Affairs, she worked on a project related to Syrian refugees in Turkey and their impact on the whole region. Souad is also a PhD student at Galatasaray University on the topic of Turkish civil movement’s role in political decision-making process. She was a fellow
with United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and served previously as political adviser at a ministerial cabinet in Morocco and before at an Arab Embassy in Turkey.
Dr. Said Saddiki – Associate FellowSaid Saddiki is currently a professor of international relations at Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University, Fez, Morocco. He served as professor at Al-Ain University of Science and Technology, Abu Dhabi, UAE, from September 2012 to July 2019. He is the author of six books, including “World of Walls: Structure, Roles and Effectiveness of Separation Barriers” (2017) and “The State in a Changing World: Nation-State and New Global Challenges” (in Arabic) (2008). He has received a number of international awards and grants, including Fulbright Visiting Scholarship, Research Fellowship at the NATO Defense College in Rome and the Arab Prize in the Social Sciences and Humanities. He is currently interested in separation border barriers, foreign policy analysis, the Western Sahara dispute and Moroccan political issues.
Francesco Colin – Associate Fellow
Francesco is a PhD researcher at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS/EUR) in The Hague, with a research project on civic engagement and active citizenship. The focus of his research are institutional petitions to local councils in Morocco, while his expertise revolves around political participation, decentralisation and local governance in the Maghreb. After obtaining an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in Inter-Mediterranean Mediation, he also collaborated with the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Rabat as a Junior Expert. Dr. Anne-Luise Baumann – Associate Fellow
Anne-Luise Baumann is a sociologist and an expert on quantitative methods. Her research focuses on social inequality, migration and integration topics. Currently she works as a scientific consultant. Previous engagements include expert reports and policy advise e.g. on the collection and development potentials of antidiscrimination data for the German Antidiscrimination Agency of the Federal Government (ADS).
She received her PhD from the International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS) at the University of Bremen in Germany.
