Abdelilah Essate and Houda Douali from the Moroccan Institute for Policy Analysis (MIPA) participated in fifth conference of the Project on Middle East Democracy (POMED) on building alliances and ensuring its sustainability. The conference hosted research institutes from six Arab countries: Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia and took place in Sousse, Tunisia on 17, 18 and 19 November 2017 and is part of an ongoing partnership between MIPA and POMED.
During the three-day conference, the presentations and workshops focused on the benefits of coalition building for civil society organizations and how to manage a successful cooperation that takes into consideration the political and social environments as well as the internal and external challenges in the aim to sustain the alliance until it achieves its objectives.
Mr. Azmi Shuaibi, founder of the Palestinian Transparency Organization, a coalition of integrity and transparency, a member of the Board of Directors of Arab Parliamentarians against Corruption, and Mr. Ashraf Awadi, the founder of the organization ‘I am vigilant against corruption’, presented their experiences in the field of building alliances for fighting against corruption in their own countries. These experiences were followed by a discussion about the strengths and weaknesses that characterized the two alliances.
The members of the MIPA presented the goal of the Institute and the areas of research. We also expressed our readiness to work together with new partners who share the same vision and goals.
It is noteworthy that the MIPA is an independent research institution founded by trans-disciplinary researchers. Among its main objectives is to provide accurate policy analysis about Morocco and the rest of the Middle East and North Africa. Through its participation in these meetings, MIPA is keen to enhance its presence in the region alongside with likeminded organizations and to strengthen its relations with key partners.
